MWH’s approach to commissioning and start-up (C&SU) is proactive and integrated into the preconstruction and construction phases. During preconstruction, the C&SU and construction team will work with each client to develop a C&SU sequence that prioritizes the operation’s needs (i.e., secondary expansion vs. tertiary) while maintaining plant operation.

We work with design teams to develop and use advanced process models to predict and quickly implement the necessary operational parameters to achieve the desired effects. While many projects are plagued by problems and delays during startup, we have found that our approach facilitates rapid, successful startup and turnover.

Start-Up

A dedicated C&SU Lead, and his/her team, develop a proven strategy tailored to each project’s individual needs and an approach for managing the C&SU process starting in preconstruction: To ensure the City’s operations team is trained and confident in the new systems and infrastructure, they will be integrated with the C&SU Team. The lessons learned through hands-on troubleshooting will prepare the operations staff to operate the enhanced facility. Operations should witness and participate in certification of proper installation (COPI) of equipment, functional testing, system startup, and acceptance testing whenever possible.
